Casino Welfare
July 3, 2010 - Lately Fox News has been bashing "welfare people" (just like they bash the unemployed). As someone who is unemployed and living in Las Vegas, I'd like to defend those
welfare recipients who are using ATMs in casinos.
So what!
Many of these people don't have transportation, but a few casinos offer free trolley
rides to their property. There are tour buses that will charge you $10 for a round-trip to the casino, but give you a rebate when you arrive.
Many casinos charge less in ATM fees to induce you into their casinos to gamble and spend money...and some casinos will give you a free spin on the Wheel of Fortune for cashing paychecks, where sometimes people can double their money without any risk at all.
And people can buy a roll of pennies for $2 and play a penny video poker machines and get free complimentary drinks from the cocktail waitress (and not necessarily alcohol). In a casino you can sometimes find an all-you-can-eat buffet for very cheap.
For someone with little discretionary funds, a casino can be a real bargain, and
a place to entertain yourself with people-watching or
a discounted show or movie. Why deny those, who's lives are already so
financially impacted already? What difference does it make where they use their damn ATM, I'm sure they're not buying new Cadillacs!
There may be a small percentage of people of "milking" the system, just like in
EVERY segment of society. Would Fox News like to tell the unemployed where to use their ATMs too? Let's look over the shoulder's of Congress and let's see how they're spending our money instead...they are the real thieves!
